PRETTYCARESINC was founded by Pretty Palleh Karpeh. A native born Liberian who grew up in West Africa and experienced the hardship of poverty especially during the country’s Civil War.
She recalls traveling to neighboring countries seeking refuge that included access to food, clean drinking water, shelter and medical care. Her grandmother, who she perceives as a selfless and compassionate woman evidenced by her demonstration of love and care towards others, birth into fruition the vision of Pretty Cares Inc.
Rose Karpeh, Pretty’s grandmother would buy groceries on credit to cook meals to sell, feed her children, feed people who couldn’t afford a meal and pay back her creditors. She also attended to the sick and birth babies without any medical necessities or supplies. Rose willingness to help the less fortunate as a member of the less fortunate propelled her granddaughter to be a giver and to empathize with others disenfranchised.
“I could go on about the horrors we went through in Liberia and during the Civil War but I’m grateful to be alive and in America today where there are opportunities for me to continue helping people like my grandmother does.”
Maria Lako
Secretary, Pretty Cares Inc. I decided to become a part of this organization because our mission is near and dear to my heart. I was born in Monrovia Liberia, west Africa. Growing up, we did not have much, there were times I went to bed hungry as a child because we had no food. Even after migrating to the United States, it was a struggle to make ends meet most of my life until I graduated from college. I know first hand how it feels to go without the basic necessities of food, water, clothing, shelter. Being apart of this organization allows me to help others who may be experiencing similar situations as I have. I want to show my son that you do not have to be rich to help others, any little bit you do, can make a big difference in another person’s life.
